Among these are: a family history of this type of cancer, early onset of menarche or late menopause as well as a personal history of abnormalities of the breast or a breast disease which was diagnosed as benign. Even a high fat diet can contribute to its development. Genetics have long been associated as a possible contributing factor to the disease.

Breast Cancer Awareness And The Economy

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October, is almost upon us. It is a time to bring a heightened sense of awareness about this horrendous disease which affects millions of families each year.

The facts are staggering.

Breast Cancer Facts

  • This disease cancer strikes women in America more than any other form of cancer, and is the second deadliest form of cancer, the first being that of lung cancer.

  • In the United States alone, more than two million women have been diagnosed with this horrific form of cancer.

  • Family history is not a major indicating factor in the chances of acquiring this disease, in fact approximately 85 percent of women diagnosed do not have a family history of this life threatening disease.

  • Although uncommon, this can affect men as well as women. Hundreds of men die from this insidious form of cancer each year.

  • The cause is unknown, but it is a fact that all women are at risk, and the risk increases with age. Early breast cancer detection is the key to survival.

Despite this well known fact, diagnostic testing centers are experiencing a decrease in the numbers of patients being seen for mammograms. Clearly, this is a sign of the times and a result of the declining economic conditions affecting many households.

Along with job loss, which is affecting more and more people each day, comes loss of health insurance. Every woman knows that early breast cancer detection is the one major thing that can be a lifesaver for those diagnosed with this disease, but clearly many families are dealing with priorities that they consider to be much higher than preventative health.

For some, it could be the decision between putting food on the table or paying for a costly test just to make sure there is no problem. This is a sad fact of life in our times, and there are no easy choices.

What You Can Do To Promote Breast Cancer Awareness

  • Display the representative pink ribbon on your vehicle

  • Wear pink ribbon apparel

  • Participate in a breast cancer walk, such as the Susan G Komen 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk

  • Share information with others about the importance of self examination and routine mammographies

  • Donate to someone who is participating in a fundraising event such as the Susan G Komen 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk

Anything you can do, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, could potentially make a huge difference in the life of a family member, friend, or stranger.

- Some of your client's and even prospects might be at the breast cancer walk too so you'll score some points with them.

- Get custom T-shirts done for your team, which have a very large space to display your company's logo and message.

- If you don't have employees, you can invite business associates, your clients and your family, to form a team and include the T-shirts.

2.Broadcast the upcoming events in your place of business

-Put up a sign in your location, with information about the upcoming events in the community. Even if you are not assisting it will encourage others to participate.

-Take pictures of the events you attend, post some at your location and also in your company's Facebook. It will prove to others that they can help too.

- Use Facebook and Twitter to inform everyone about your participation, and encourage everyone to participate as well.

-Remember, if you can't afford to participate, broadcasting these events it's still a contribution.

- Don't let your contribution go unnoticed!

3.Sponsor a fundraising event at any level you can afford.

-Donate a pink theme item with your logo for the breast cancer walk or any other event. This will help your branding and the organizers will appreciate your donation.

-Donate a set percentage of your October sales to a charity foundation.

-If you are in retail, put a clear box next to the register and ask people to make a small donation in exchange of a branded pink item. If you want to go the extra mile, match every dollar you collect.

-Organize a fundraising between your business neighbors. Offer a prize for the company that accumulates the most funds, and donate all the collections to a charity foundation.

-Make sure your advertising is appropriate for your audience and make public how much you are collecting and giving to the charity.

Make sure you consult about the legalities by consulting with your attorney or contacting the local chapter of the Breast Cancer Association or American Cancer Society.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer occurs when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control enabling them to invade nearby tissues or spread throughout the body. Collections of these out of control tissues are called tumors. However, not all breast tumors are considered cancerous since certain types of large cells just cannot be spread or threaten a person's life and this kind of tumor is called benign tumor. On the other hand, the tumors that can spread all throughout the body or invade nearby tissues are considered cancerous cells and are malignant. Cancer cells usually comes from either ducts or glands in the breast that is why it may take months or even years for a tumor to be notice in the breast. Breast tumors are screened with the use of mammograms that are rather accurate in screening tumor or cancer cells.

Women are much prone to develop this health defeat than men. Only 1% to 2% of men have been known to have cases of such problem. The early onset of menstruation in women at the age of 12 increases the risk for a cancer on the other hand an early menopausal period may reduce the risk. The risk for women to have it increases with age in fact a study shows that women over 50 are more likely to develop this. Nevertheless, the incidence of cancer among younger women is also increasing in an alarming rate that is why more women of ages 20s to 30s have subjected themselves to be diagnosed.

It is not only acquired but also can be inherited. For women who have genetic mutation such as BRCA1 or BRCA2 has an 80% risk of developing breast cancer. Women who have first-degree relative diagnosed to have cancer increase their risk of also acquiring this disease. Moreover, women with first-degree relative that are diagnosed to have it before menopause increase the risk.

Some factors contribute to the occurrence of this malicious threat and these are as follows: smoking, alcohol and radiation exposure. Women who are smoking will increase their chances to have breast cancer. Aside from that, high intakes of alcohol have been found to be a source of breast cancer. Radiation exposure is another factor that contributes to this life threatening disease. Studies have shown that women as well as children who have undergone high-dose radiation therapy have a much higher chance of having breast cancer.

Pink Is In The Air: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Unless you live under a rock you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thanks to the efforts of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) campaign pink is the new color for fall. Everywhere you look buildings are sporting neon pink ribbons, billboards are plastered with motivating messages and seas of pink are racing around major cities nationwide. But with all this awareness there is also a flood of contradicting information for women to sort through.

To Mammogram or Not:

Trust me, no one wants to subject themselves to a mammogram but we do it because we know that early detection is so very important in fighting this disease. Breast cancer treatment is usually less aggressive and better tolerated when the disease is detected early. But, now we are getting mixed messages that maybe we don't need to be rushing to the imaging suites to get our annual mammograms at the age of 40, but rather we should delay this until 50.

The United States Preventive Services Task Force's (USPSTF) recent recommendations on mammograms have created quite a bit of confusion. The USPSTF recommends biennial screening mammography for women aged 50 - 74 and recommends against teaching Breast Self-Examination (BSE). So what's a girl to do?

Three leading groups in breast cancer research, treatment and awareness have responded to the USPSTF mammography recommendations:

American Cancer Society: Still recommends that all women over the age of 40 receive a mammogram annually.

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists: Recommends that physician fellows continue to follow current guidelines and advise mammography screening for patients aged 40 and older.

Susan G. Komen: "Susan G. Komen for the Cure wants to eliminate any impediments to regular mammography screening for women age 40 and older. While there is no question that mammograms save lives for women over 50 and women 40-49, there is enough uncertainty about the age at which mammography should begin and the frequency of screening that we would not want to see a change in policy for screening mammography at this time."

Is a Breast Self Examination (BSE) still recommended?

A monthly BSE has been recommended since 1993; however more than 30 nonrandomized trails have produced conflicting results about the efficacy, sensitivity and specificity of the practice. The BSE must be done with some level of skill and the current consensus is that BSE should be used in combination with other breast cancer screening modalities such as a Clinical Breast Exam (CBE) and mammography. A CBE is similar to a BSE but a trained healthcare provider such as your doctor or nurse conducts it.

If you chose to do a monthly BSE you should have your doctor or nurse check your method to make sure you are doing it right. The biggest benefit of doing a regular BSE is that you know how your breasts normally look and feel so you can more easily notice any changes. The most important thing is to contact your physician ASAP if you notice any changes in your breasts.

The American Cancer Society and other women's health organizations still see merit in the monthly BSE and continue to recommend it's practice. Save the Ta-Ta's is an organization committed to raising awareness and providing fun products such as Boob Lube to promote and encourage breast self-examinations. 25% of proceeds go to breast cancer awareness and research.

Where to Get Free or Low Cost Mammograms and Breast Cancer Screening:

Contact The American Cancer Society or call 1-800-227-2345 to find the nearest free or low cost mammogram.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also gives free and low cost mammograms.

Healing Breast Cancer

Breast cancer has long plagued patients of both genders, viciously threatening their lives with silent tumors and self destructive cells. With breast cancer awareness at its highest, and research funding more widely available, patients have access to superb health care and treatments not only from physicians, but from natural alternatives as well. Using nature in combination with scientific advancements can increase a person's chances of beating cancer and give them healthier lives as well.

While there are lists of foods being promoted that are thought to have cancer fighting agents such as lypocene, much of the western world is unaware of the natural foods that can help fight cancer as well. One such power food is barley. Taking barley green in capsule or powder form is a healthy and relatively inexpensive way to fight cancer using thousands of enzymes to attack cancer cells and contain them. Barley helps to promote a more alkaline body as well.

Cancer is known to thrive in acidic conditions. Sodas and fried foods are major foes of an alkaline body. The PH level of the body needs to be above 7.0, as this is a signal of a non-acidic environment. PH test strips can be purchased over the counter at most health food and even drug stores. Eating foods that promote alkalinity helps in fighting cancer. Some of these foods include fresh fruit, vegetables, beets, turnips, carrots, and beans. One should always consult with their physician or primary care provider before making a change in diet.

On the scientific side of breast cancer, there are many options available for fighting this disease. Many surgical procedures are offered to eliminate tumors, some even leaving the breast intact. Chemotherapy and radiation are other popular choices, though the side effects are unpleasant. One key to healing breast cancer is to work hand in hand with a medical doctor and other holistic practices to find the treatment that is best. Incorporating mood balancing exercise, meditation and prayer into a daily routine can help alleviate stress as well, allowing the immune system to build itself stronger and more effective.

Breast cancer is not a death sentence, and is beatable in most cases, despite what stage it seems to be progressing in. With a change in diet, some help from science and a little personal time, a new breast cancer survivor can emerge, with a new and healthier outlook on life.

Start healing your Cancer with the Breast Cancer Diet

Breast Cancer Awareness Is Only a First Step

One in eight US women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Overcoming breast cancer is a personal journey with choices along the way. There are choices about the type of breast surgery, the need for additional treatments and options for breast reconstruction. Research has found that breast reconstruction contributes to a woman's self-esteem and sense of wellbeing; however, more than 70 percent of women eligible for breast reconstruction are not told about all of their options.

The media frequently heightens awareness of breast cancer, but awareness doesn't always translate into a positive impact on health care. Agreeing or disagreeing that Angelina Jolie Pitt's decision to surgically remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes to prevent ovarian cancer was a heroic and courageous move is a matter of perspective. However, in between the lines of Angelina's latest article in the NY Times ("Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery", NY Times, March 24, 2015) lies a subtler message... KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND WOMEN NEED TO ADVOCATE FOR THEIR OWN PHYSICAL HEALTH. This is a dialogue we need to have with ourselves. Angelina Jolie Pitt made choices consistent with her history and lifestyle. As the Delphic Maxim on the Temple of Apollo reads "Know thyself." Each person is driven by different motives and sensitivities, personally unique to their individual circumstances. There is always more than one way to deal with any health issue. The most important thing is to learn about your options and choose what is right for you and your loved ones.

Every woman diagnosed with breast cancer should seek a referral to a plastic surgeon to learn about all of her reconstructive options before her cancer is treated and removed. Breast reconstruction after mastectomy or lumpectomy generally falls into two categories: implant based reconstruction or reconstruction using a person's own tissue, also known as autologous reconstruction. Autologous reconstruction can be subdivided into flap reconstruction, total reconstruction with autologous fat transfer, or a combination of the two. Reconstructive techniques are not necessarily mutually exclusive, and often techniques are combined to give the best result.

Breast reconstruction is staged which means more than one surgery will need to be performed to reconstruct the breasts to a more natural shape and size. Not all plastic surgeons are the same, and in one's weakness lay another's strength. Speaking to more than one plastic surgeon may help a woman affected by breast cancer (and her family) see the picture through a wider lens.

As health care professionals, we are here to help you make the decisions that will give you the best quality of life in the long run. In closing her article Jolie Pitt poignantly wrote, "It is not easy to make these decisions. But it is possible to take control and tackle head-on any health issue. You can seek advice, learn about the options and make choices that are right for you."

Breast Cancer Awareness Necklace: A Simple Symbol of Support

The pink ribbon is a known symbol for breast cancer awareness. Breast cancer awareness necklaces and other accessories for this purpose are also prominent during the month of October which is recognized now as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This form of cancer is the most growing kind especially among women, although males are not actually totally spared from it. Sometime last year, there came a craze on the social networking site, Facebook, where women were posting on their pages the color of their bra. Apparently, this is to support awareness on breast cancer. There are many efforts to raise awareness on this sickness because although cancer maybe an incurable disease, early detection can still result to a long time survival.

For every woman's piece of mind, here is how to detect breast cancer by your own. You can be start by undressing from waist up. Lie down and put a pillow under the left shoulder. Put your left hand behind your back and start feeling your left breast using your right hand's 3 middle fingers. Start at the outer edge then work around the left breast in circles, getting closer to your nipple as you do it. When finished, try squeezing the nipple gently and check for any discharge. Do the same process on your right breast.

Aside from the fluid discharge, be sensitive to the following symptoms as well:

- Any distinct difference in an area on either breast.

- A change in the contour, shape or size of the breast

- When you feel a lump or mass even as small as a pea

- Any marble-like formation under the skin

- A thickening area near the breast or the underarm that does not go away

- Any inflamed feeling on the breast skin or nipple

- Redness on the breast skin or nipple

It is advised to do this self-examination every month. If you are aware that cancer cells run in your family, then there is more probability for you to get it so be on the lookout and be extra vigilant.

Now, prevention is always better than cure. Even if you have a high risk in getting this disease, use that small percentage of you being free from it. Live a cancer preventive lifestyle. Here is how:

1. Know your ideal body weight according to your height and maintain it.

2. If you cannot avoid alcohol, then minimize your intake. Studies have shown that alcohol is an established risk factor when it comes to breast cancer.

3. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, as many as possible.

4. Do exercises. Do it regularly and don't stop. A 30 minute cardio exercise, like running and brisk walking, will do.

5. Stay away from fatty diets, except Omega 3 fats that can be obtained from oily fish like sardines, salmon and tuna.

6. Get the right carbs. Good carbohydrates are in whole grains, beans and legumes.

8. Minimize exposure to xeno-estrogens. Don't take estrogens unless they are medically prescribed and follow the dosage indicated.

9. Maintain a positive mental outlook in life.

Cancer is somewhat a taboo for some. Those who are inflicted are perceived to be doomed because there is still no significant improvement in modern medicine to totally cure this disease. Patients become hopeless and some will just succumbed to death thinking that it is an inevitable end, anyway. Luckily, there are different organizations that are continuously exerting efforts to help these cancer victims, giving them a positive outlook in front of cancer adversity. We can also do our own share in as simple as wearing pink ribbons or breast cancer awareness necklaces to actively participating in awareness promotion events. Cancer is tough, but we should not stop fighting.

Breast Cancer Awareness - Everyday!

Responsible for over 500,000 deaths worldwide in the mid 2000s, breast cancer is one of the leading health threats to women. Over 10% of cases of cancer in women are some type of breast cancer. It is the most common form of the ailment after the various skin cancers.

Men are not immune. While they are much less likely to develop the disease, men have a higher mortality rate, mostly due to the fact that much of the time they are diagnosed only after the disease has progressed to a fatal stage. If you have relatives who have suffered from breast cancer you are at a higher risk of developing it yourself. The news is not all dire, however, there are ways to detect and treat the disease, some of which we will discuss in this article.

Generally breast cancer develops in the areas that serve milk production. There are two main areas where it is seen: in the milk ducts ( a cancer called ductal carcinoma) and in the region that delivers milk to those ducts (lobular carcinoma). The two main ways a cancerous tumor is detect are breast exams and mammograms.

A breast exam can be administered either by oneself or by a clinician. It consists of feeling the breast for lumps or other irregularities that might indicate the presence of the cancer. While the effectiveness of catching the disease early is disputed, it is a good way to make sure a tumor is caught before widespread sickness commences. There are numerous tutorials about how to conduct a self-administered breast exam.

The other way to detect a cancerous tumor is through a mammogram. A mammogram is an X-ray that searches the breast for abnormal tissue growth. It is much more accurate than a self-administered breast exam because it can detect growths that are still in the very early stages and therefore too small to be felt with the hands. It's sensitivity makes it a good choice for women who have family histories of breast cancer.

Once detected, breast cancer can be treated in a number of ways. The exact line of treatment depends on the life history of the patient, the stage and aggressiveness of the cancer, and the personal requests of the woman involved. A biopsy, once conducted, will confirm or refute the initial diagnosis; if confirmed, it will also provide information about how to proceed through treatment.

The widespread nature of breast cancer-geographically, culturally, and historically-has fostered the growth of an immense support system for its sufferers. There are a variety of affinity groups; there is an official Breast Cancer Awareness month, October; there is the international symbol, the pink ribbon; and there are many fashion and medical advancements designed to ease the psychological stress of cancer survivors.

While it is a terrible affliction, there is hope for those who suffer from breast cancer. Diligent application of the detection methods, and a healthy lifestyle, can reduce the chance of fatality. If you know someone with a family history, encourage them to educate themselves on prevention.

Saving Lives Through Breast Cancer Awareness

The insidiousness of breast cancer is without parallel - affecting over a million people a year worldwide and claiming the lives of women at a rate second only to lung cancer. As women battle for their lives on a daily basis, a grassroots movement to educate the women of the world continues to surge.

Those who are affected by breast cancer know that recovery stems from early detection and proper treatment; and in order to detect symptoms and find effective treatment, women need to have access to up-to-date information; thus evolved the promotion of breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer awareness encompasses the education and empowerment of women and men worldwide and encourages them to act as advocates for their own care; it includes a comprehensive plan for focusing on the whole person and the many ways in which breast cancer and prevention can be approached.

One of the first components of raising breast cancer awareness includes awareness of education, literacy, and research. There is so much research being done on a daily basis to further the cause of treatment and to one day find a permanent cure. In order for patients and families to feel connected to the process, they must be kept informed as to what advancements have been made.

The breast cancer awareness campaign works to make sufferers and families aware of the places in which to find comprehensive information. In today's age of technology, most people find their information via the Internet; there are a host of reputable and valuable websites that provide a wealth of continually updated information.

Prevention is a large part of awareness and part of the work of the campaign is to make people aware of the ways in which they can prevent breast cancer. This includes making people aware of up-to-date information regarding diet and exercise, as well as the effects of other lifestyle and environmental stressors on the possibility of getting this cancer.

Most importantly, awareness focuses on the importance of screening for early detection so that treatment options are immediately available to increase the chance of survival and ongoing health. Doctors recommend screenings from 35 years of age and up; more than 50% of diagnosed cases of breast cancer are found in women over the age of fifty. Such screenings include routine gynecological examinations, mammograms, breast ultrasound and, most importantly, breast self-examination. Spreading the message of screenings is especially important in low-income areas where women tend to avoid medical care because of the cost.

Of course, breast cancer awareness also includes knowing where to turn for treatment and what that treatment may entail. In the spirit of providing people with accurate and up-to-date information, many of the websites and other informational centers that feature educational resources, will also include comprehensive information regarding treatment options. This is vitally important for people struggling to make choices regarding their health.

But one of the most important aspects of awareness is reminding the people that are engrossed in the fight that they are a part of a larger community where they can find support and camaraderie.

Breast cancer awareness saves people's lives. It can be the bridge from people - to information. And for those who are faced with a frightening diagnosis and unsure of where to turn, the information imparted through the awareness campaign can be a beacon of hope.

Does Breast Cancer Awareness Saves Lives?

As Sidney Poiter said on the Oprah Winfrey show in March 2007, "I was left with the responsibility to effectuate my own survival." As adults, we're all accountable for our own survival. Yet as decent human beings, we need to ensure each other's survival by learning what is not always easily discovered, but necessary to know. This is especially true when one is newly diagnosed with breast cancer.

By raising our awareness, we can literally keep death at bay by spreading knowledge, wisdom and courage. It takes either personal experience, or a special dedication to a vision of a better future for girls and women, in order to make a deep, ongoing commitment to breast cancer awareness.

It is so important to get an early diagnosis. In 2006, the American Cancer Society estimated that there would be 212,920 new cases, and of these, 40,970 women would die. Each year, around 1,600 men will be diagnosed and 400 die.

About 30% of patients are women under 40. Women with a family history or other concerns might need to begin screening tests earlier than the recommended annual exam at age 40. Clinical breast exams need to be done at least every 3 years starting at age 20, and every year after 40.

Breast cancer is unique in that it is a disease where

there is no known prevention, like there often is with other cancers. We must rely on measures that improve the chances of early detection.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer among women in the United States, behind lung cancer. The five-year survival rate is 90%. For breast cancer detected early, having not spread to the lymph nodes, the five-year survival rate is 98%. Awareness could help save tens of thousands of lives each year by helping women get diagnosed earlier through regular screening.

The death rate dropped significantly from 1989 to 2003, a decline mostly due to the increasing role of mammography in detecting early-stage tumors, as well as improvements in therapy.

New diagnostic methods are coming soon. According to Science Daily, in the future, dentists may be able to administer a simple, non-invasive saliva test for at regular dental checkups. Though not yet approved by the FDA, if this method of diagnosis does receive approval, dentists and physicians could collaborate to diagnose breast cancer earlier.

You raise your own awareness when you:

* Talk with doctors, nurses, advocates, and survivors.

* Read books and articles and visit websites.

* Participate in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month events in October, as well as year-round awareness events such as those sponsored by Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

* Do monthly self-exams. Though not all lumps are detectable by touch, 70% is found through monthly breast self-exams.

* Have regular mammograms starting at age 40.

You or someone you know may be the one woman in eight who will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. Develop your awareness and give yourself and someone else the gift of life!

Prepare for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by Throwing a Pink Party

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the signature color of the movement is pink. As many individuals prepare to host fundraising and charity events for the cause, why not hold your very own pink party to honor those who have beat the disease and also shed light on the research that is being done to find a cure.

Luckily, there are countless pink decorations and items available to throw the perfect pink party during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the best part is that these products may be reused for other events like a sweet 16 or bachelorette party, which can help to go along with the current trend of being green and environmentally friendly.

Start by sending out personalized invitations on light pink stationary or cards. Encourage guests to wear all pink and white to the party as well. You may also try sending invitations that have the signature pink ribbon of the breast cancer movement on it. If doing a charity tie-in, don't forget to tell your friends beforehand so that they don't show up without knowing they'll be making a small donation.

A Breast Cancer Awareness pink party can be either a large or small gathering, but you should always make sure to have enough paper goods for your partygoers. Pink paper plates, tableware, napkins and cups come in a variety of shapes and sizes and also go along with the party theme. They're also perfect if you're serving pink ribbon cookies, cupcakes and cotton candy flavored drinks.

As far as decorations are concerned, don't be afraid to go big and bright with your pink selections. Hang a large personalized banner welcoming your partygoers to an inspiring and fun event. You can decorate with balloons and streamers in a variety of shades of pink and even incorporate larger balloons with pink ribbons on them. Try hanging wall decorations and tea lights in the shape of pink ribbons around your venue to liven up the atmosphere. Additionally, handing out pink feather boas, leis and wrist bands to your guests as party favors can be a nice touch.

You can also create gift bags for your guests to take away from the breast cancer pink party, and include pink ribbons, personalized pink pens and several other thoughtful mementos to remind them of the great party they have attended and what a great cause they were supporting.

A pink party is perfect for several occasions, but is especially poignant during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year thousands of women across the U.S. are battling the disease, and every party and fundraiser held helps raise money to bring us one step closer to finding a cure. Hosting your very own pink party is a way to bring a community together and celebrate life while rallying around an amazing cause. Of course, any excuse to transform a venue into a pink wonderland is enough for some people, and with so many different shades of pink, you'll never feel like you can't switch up the look and introduce more muted tones or fluorescent hues.

Creating Cancer Awareness With Breast Cancer Jewelry

If you look at the statistics, you may shudder at the number of women who suffer from breast cancer. What is even more pitiable is the fact that a lot of women fail to get the right treatment because they do not get the problem diagnosed. If the medical ailment is diagnosed in the later stages, it can be very hard to get it treated.

There is a pressing need to create the right kind of awareness because both men and women need to be educated about it. There is nothing to be embarrassed as this too is a medical ailment like most other diseases. However, so many efforts have gone down the drain for so long. Thus, the need was felt for something radical and dynamic and this is where breast cancer jewelry comes into place.

Pink is the color that speaks

The official color for breast cancer awareness is pink. You can find innumerable breast cancer jewelries that are all drenched in pink. When you are looking to buy one of those, you will be amazed at the variety which you will get.

Regardless of what your choices are, you are sure to find some of the most amazing jewelry which you will love to wear. However, the purpose of this jewelry is not just the style factor. There is greater cause for which you need to participate.

When you sport pink breast cancer jewelry; be it bracelets, rings or pins; it is sure to bring attention. Pink is not the conventional color for jewelry and this is the reason; people are likely to notice it. The main purpose of such a piece of jewelry is to let others know that you are concerned about breast cancer and you want to be the change that you wish to see.

No waves of great change can be brought unless you do your bit. You need to start of the change and sometimes it is these little things that can make the biggest difference which you need.

When you are sporting such jewelry, try and tell people about the same. It can spark a chain reaction and that will set out the right awareness campaign which is the need of the hour. Do not flinch from telling others about how painful this cancer may be and why the patients deserve love and respect rather than being looked down. It is one such disease that can occur to anyone and the amount of pain that women go through is incomprehensible.

It is the love, care and support that will give them the strength to face the turmoil and tiring times. It might look like a piece of jewelry to some, but the message which these pink bracelets or even rings and clips convey is immaculate.

Breast cancer is not a disease to be ashamed of. If you can get it diagnosed in the earlier stages, the chances of it being treated increases manifold. Do your bit today. By buying and wearing this jewelry, you can educate people about the need to create awareness and contribute to it. Do not shy away from your duties.

Breast Cancer and Safe Screening Awareness

There is a tool available today to help identify the conditions and diseases that could be going on inside you, without symptoms and seemingly harmless. If your a woman that has concerns about breast cancer, this technology is for you. It could quite literally save your breasts, and your life.

When the normal function of your body goes dysfunctional, your body will try to heal itself through natural processes. If these processes fail, this is when symptoms develop and at which point most of us realize we need help. Especially when the symptoms affect our lives or even threaten them. The key is to get a heads-up when your body is going through some abnormal changes years before any discernible symptoms develop, thereby avoiding any potential danger.

Unfortunately, the conventional medicine community is keeps holding on to old ideas of cancer detection and treatment, not matter the proven ineffectiveness. Breast detection methods used by mainstream medicine include mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and PET scans. Awareness and education of a better, less risky, more effective options for detecting breast cancer are sorely lacking.

Concerning conventional breast cancer screening, it is recommended that all women over 40 get mammogram every one to two years, yet there is no solid evidence that mammorgrams save lives, and the benefits are a bit controversial. In fact, the health hazards of mammography have been well established.

The routine practice of taking four films of each breast annually results in approximately 1 rad exposure, and that is about 1,000 times greater than that from a chest x-ray. In case you havn't heard, radiation is not something to play around with. X-rays and other classes of ionizing have been a proven cause of virtually all types of biological mutations, and are an established cause of genomic instability, a characteristic of the most aggressive cancers.

Reducing exposure to medical radiation with unnecessary mammograms makes good sense, considering the high percentage of false reads, which unfortunately leads many women to have an unnecessarily mastectomy or harmfully treated with more radiation or chemotherapy. Mammography has its value, but there are other technologies that are proven to be more effective, less expensive, and completely harmless. A win-win situation.

What is an option that is safe and can give as much as 10 years warning of something about to develop? It is called thermal imaging, or thermography, which has the ability to detect problems early enough to use preventive choices, versus detecting disease at the stage where treatment is required. Thermography finding are the single most important indicator of high risk for breast cancer. The increased percentage survival rate is astounding when compared with other methods.

How does thermography work? It is basically infrared thermal imaging which detects irregular heat patterns which precedes a breast lump. A healthy body is thermally symmetrical, therefore both breasts that are healthy, the blood flow will show nearly identical patterns. Thermography is able to detect if something is awry by different vascular patterns, which can be an indicator of something wrong. The surface temperature of the breast increases as the body tries to feed the cancer tissue. Heat differentiation in the body is an indicator of disease, hence this principle applies most significantly in regard to breast cancer detection.

Ladies, thermography is non-invasive, painless, and risk-free. Prevention is the best cure.

Breast Cancer - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. In the US, about 180,000 women develop it each year. The disease can also occur in men, although cancer of the male breast accounts for less than 1 in 100 cases. The risk of it increases with age, doubling every 10 years.

The disease is most commonly diagnosed in women over age 50. Very few women under age 30 develop it. Despite the rise in incidence, there has been a small drop in the number of deaths in the recent years and only about one-fifth of cases prove fatal. This reduction is due to improvements in treatment and the increased use of mammography for screening, which means that tumors can be detected early, when they often respond well to treatment.

Screening may reduce the number of deaths in women over age 50 by up to 4 in 10. In the US, many doctors recommend that women over age 40 have a mammogram every 1-2 years and every year over age 50. A cancerous tumor may first develop in the breast lobules (the structures in the breast that produce milk). A tumor that originates in the milk ducts may lead to Paget's disease of the breast. Tumors may spread to other organs, such as the lungs or the liver, before being detected.

It is a cancer that originates in the breast tissue of women and men. It can spread to the lymph nodes under the arm before diagnosis. With advanced disease, metastasis can be seen in many body organs, including bone, brain, lung, liver and skin.

Causes:

The underlying cause of most is unclear. However, some risk factors have been identified, many of which suggest that the female hormone estrogen is an important factor in the development and progress of the disease. It is known that women who have their first menstrual period before age 11, or who have a late menopause, seem to be at increased risk of developing this cancer, probably because they are exposed to high levels of estrogen for longer. The number of menstrual cycles before a first pregnancy is also significant. And a woman who has her first child before age 20 has chances. Breast feeding is thought to have an additional protective effect.

Risk factors for developing it include

. Early onset of menses or late menopause

. First pregnancy after age 30

. Family history of the disease

. Radiation exposure

Possible risk factors include

. High fat diet

. Excessive alcohol intake

. Estrogen replacement therapy

. Oral contraceptive use

Symptoms:

It is usually manifest as a painless lump anywhere in the breast or under the arm. Occasionally, its symptoms can be more subtle, such as:

. An inverted nipple

. Bloody discharge from the nipple

. Changes in the skin overlying the breast making it resemble the skin of an orange.

Diagnosis:

Any Breast pain or lumps felt on physical examination by a woman or her physician and any lumps found on mammography (Radiography) should be considered for biopsy. Lumps seen on mammography, but not palpable on examination can be located by ultrasound or mammogram for biopsy. If a diagnosis of it is established, staging tests include:

. Liver function tests

. Alkaline phosphates test to check for bone disease

. Chest X-ray (Radiography)

. Bone Scan (Nuclear Medicine)

Complications:

Complications of it are related to areas of metastasis:

. Metastasis to bone can cause pain, bone fractures or elevated calcium levels in the blood.

. Metastasis to the brain or spinal cord can cause seizures, headaches, weakness, numbness or confusion.

. Metastasis to the lungs can cause breathing difficulty, chest pain or swelling of the face and neck.

Treatment: Self Treatment:

. A well balanced diet should be maintained. Once a diagnosis of it is made all estrogen medication should be stopped, including birth control pills.

Medical Treatment:

Many women will require additional drug therapy after surgery to prevent it from returning. Either tamoxifen (a hormonal pill) or chemotherapy (intravenous medication) may be recommended, depending on the type of tumor. More advanced case is also treated with chemotherapy or hormonal therapy.

Surgical Treatment:

Two alternative initial treatments for it are:

. Lumpectomy with lymph node dissection followed by radiation therapy to the breast.

. Mastectomy (mastectomy, partial or mastectomy, modified radical)

Prevention:

Early detection of it by regular beast self-examination and regular mammography (Radiography) screening is important. A low - fat diet and moderate alcohol intake may be important. Some researchers theorize that exercise for preadolescent girls may be helpful as it delays the age of onset of menstruation.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer is one of the most serious diseases that can strike women of almost any age. Cancer awareness is important to help women find the first signs of cancer. The survival rate for cancer that was found early is almost 96%. However, over 40,000 women die per year due to cancer. This means that these women did not detect their breast cancer in the early stages. Statistics like this show that there is not enough breast cancer awareness among women of the world.

There are many simple ways to raise cancer awareness. There are many cancer products such as tee shirts, bracelets, and tote bags that when purchased, provide much needed money to cancer research projects. Some online sites have partnered with sponsors to fund cancer research when certain links or advertisements are clicked on. Visitors to these sites do not even have to pay anything.

The Susan G. Komen race for the cure is another great way to help raise cancer awareness. Most people will sponsor someone participating in a charitable race like that one. In addition to the money gathered for the race, they often give tee shirts to participants. Just wearing a shirt that mentions breast cancer is a way to raise breast cancer awareness.

Many women in the United States know about breast cancer and the devastating effect that it can have on both a woman's life and her family's life. However, many women ignore the procedures that they should be doing to help catch any signs of possible cancer. Women over 40 should have a mammogram every year. However, many women do not even go to the doctor at all once a year. This is negligence that can cause serious problems. The best thing to do in this situation is to encourage every female you know to get periodic breast exams. This is especially important if the woman is over 40. However, younger women should get checked as well.

There are some breast examinations that can be preformed at home. Many doctors recommend that a woman periodically check her own breasts for any possible lumps or irregularities. This can easily be done in the shower. It is important that women take the time to care for themselves. Cancer can be very deadly if ignored. Considering that the chances of survival is close to 100% if the cancer is caught early, it is irresponsible to not check for breast cancer on a regular basis.

If you have Cancer you need to fight it with a Cancer Diet.

Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Tips

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Men and women can take preventative steps for avoiding breast cancer and staying healthy. Essentials within your control, include:

o aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week

o maintaining a positive mental attitude

o breathwork and deepening body-awareness (yoga is great)

o expressing your feelings to keep your energy flowing

o eating healthy foods and taking the "right" supplements

o avoiding toxicity.

Some things to avoid:

o Any medication containing acetaminophen. Products such as Tylenol, Sudafid, Bromo seltzer, vicodin, and many others drive down the glutathione levels in the body. Glutathione is an essential antioxidant and detoxifier.

o Aspartame (not to be confused with aspertate) has been proven to cause cancer in rats. It is a common ingredients in many no-sugar products such as yogurt, ice cream, desserts and carbonated beverages. Splenda is also harmful.

o Toxins. Use toxin-free, organic products. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly with soapy water to remove chemical residues. Better yet, buy only organic products and non-GMO (non-genetically modified) foods. Read labels (Veggies and fruit will have an 9 to indicate organic and an 8 for non-GMO).

o Active computer screens should be at least 18 inches away from your body. You need to be at least 36 inches from your active television screens.

Breast Self Exams are the number one method for detecting changes in breast health. Finding any symptoms does not mean you have cancer. Early detection means your survival, and thriver rate, is very high. Very high! It also means you have a broad range of alternative and complementary treatment options. So learn the signs.

No one knows your body as well as you do. That's why it's essential to exam your breasts at the same time every month - so you can detect any changes that might occur. When you do the self-exam, you are reassuring yourself that your body is still in great condition.

There are numerous websites that now offer instruction in self-exams. One I prefer is the Komen Foundation, (www.komen.org) which offers an interactive video you can watch on your home computer, while doing your exam.

Many women find it helpful to have a buddy to call each month to remind or be reminded to conduct the self-exam. It's never to late to begin a good habit, so invite a Yoga buddy to be your breast health buddy now.

The signs to pay attention to include the following:

A lump, hard knot or thickening

Swelling, warmth

Redness or darkening

Change in size or shape

Dimpling or puckering of the skin

Rash

Itching or scaling, especially on the nipple

Pulling in of your nipple or other breast areas

Sudden discharge from the nipple

New pain in one spot

Some clients have reported one or more symptoms to their medical practitioners, and been told it's "Nothing". That may be true. Often the lumps and rashes are not a sign of cancer. But they could be. Rely on your inner wisdom. It if feels "not right", then keep getting other opinions until you're satisfied with the results. Thermography, Thermal imaging, a new form of breast cancer detection, is highly recommended as a non-invasive method which is available at some breast care centers in the US.

Breast Cancer Awareness

This October is the month of the Breast Cancer Awareness. Lots of people are going to cooperates in this event through wearing pinks. It is very important that we became a part of this kind of events, to educate people around the globe about this kind of illness.

Over 1.3 million of women are diagnosed who acquired this kind of disease every year. Wherein almost half a million of its patients died, on its record 40,000 of them came from the US.

Many of us are unaware about the signs of breast cancer, and it is very important to know the early signs of this illness for early treatments and medications.

Most of the times, there are no outer signs that you can see or feel to know if you have acquired the illness. However, we can say that the only sign that you can recognize is the occurrence of a lump or a thickening area in the breast. Other signs to recognize are enlargement of the underarm lymph node, breast swelling and redness of the area.

Even you experienced all of this signs of breast cancer; it does not mean that you already have the cancer. In most cases, having breast lumps does not ensure you that you have an acute kind of cancer, it usually turn out to be benign, a not cancerous type of lumps.

If your major concern is to know whether these lumps are cancerous, it is very important for you to visit your doctor immediately to ease your worry. Having a physical breast examination can help you find if you do have lumps that have big potential of becoming cancerous.

Women who are in their late 40's are the most affected and at risk of having this kind of illness. Having annual mammogram and monthly physical examinations can help you for easy detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.

There is a wide selection of promotional breast cancer awareness products that can be custom-imprinted with a company name, logo, or marketing message. If you want to point people towards an informative website or give them a phone number to inquire about free screenings, promotional products are a great way to make sure your message is heard. A physical product is much more likely to have an impact on your audience than a simple spoken message. Aside from educating the public, you'll reap the benefits of increased goodwill towards your company.

According to the Cone Millennial Cause Study in 2006, 89% of Americans (aged 13 to 25) would switch from one brand to another brand of a comparable product if the latter brand was associated with a "good cause." Additionally, people were more likely to want to work for these socially responsible companies. Companies who support non-profit organizations in this manner have seen increases in the amount of business they generate time and time again!

This type of marketing, known as "cause marketing," can dramatically improve public and customer relations while also promoting a great cause.Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with promotional products creates a win-win situation that allows your company to gain new business, and at the same time, give help to the people who need it most. Breast Cancer Awareness - Why and How to Promote?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a fervent and active theme in today's society. It's important to be aware of Breast Cancer and to remind others to take precautionary measures against it by learning about risk factors and persistently getting yearly exams, It is important to realize that there are millions of women in US and many more in rest of the world that are not fully informed and may not have access to early detection and preventive care. Pink ribbons, buttons, apparel and other small and large items, have been used for getting people involved and educated. Such items are extremely important, as they keep Breast Cancer in the front of everyone's minds. There are many such items available for purchase, but with autumn here and winter coming up, it might be beneficial - both for awareness and for the inclement weather - to consider Breast Cancer Awareness umbrellas for the upcoming rainy season.

There are plenty of these items available in stores or online on stores. These include umbrellas of varying sizes and even ponchos. The umbrellas feature a simple, cute, and stylish pink-and-white striped pattern with a modest "Pink Ribbon" imprinted on one of the white stripes.

Umbrellas are very effective in promoting your cause because they can be imprinted with your name, logos or any message you want to communicate, breast cancer awareness in this case. They are sturdy and of latest wind resistant, rain repellant and sun protective materials. Most importantly, in rain or shine these umbrellas are visible and spread the message to remind and make people aware of the issues regarding breast cancer.

Top 5 Breast Cancer Campaign Ideas For Your Business

By now, you are certainly aware that breast cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer, and the fight against the disease has become one of the most visible in history. Many big name companies have launched awareness campaigns designed to bring attention to the disease and the fight for a cure. Holding a breast cancer awareness campaign at your business is not only an admirable idea, it is also a way for you to personally make a difference in the lives of women who suffer from this type of cancer. Awareness crusades show your company's commitment to a cause and demonstrate your willingness to take on an important cause. Also, they are an excellent form of team building, allowing employees and even family members to unite in support of breast cancer research.

The goal of a breast cancer campaign is to encourage women to be screened, encourage people to donate money to support research efforts, or simply to ensure that the cause remains in the public eye. The following are a few ways that your company can get involved:

  1. Add a recorded message to your phone lines that gives facts about breast cancer, ideas for how to support research, or tips on self checks.

  2. Hold an educational event for your employees, customers, or the public at large that talks about how early detection can make the disease more survivable and reduce the long term effects.

  3. Silent auctions are a great way to have fun while raising money. Ask employees to donate items, and then allow them to bid on each other's items. You can also ask that they donate time or talents.

  4. Golf or other sporting tournaments are another popular idea. Players pay a participation fee, and the money is then donated to a research organization or group. Participants each receive a breast cancer pin and a certificate thanking them for their donation, and winners should receive some type of prize.

  5. One of the simplest ways to raise awareness is through pink ribbon pins. You can sell the pins to employees or customers to raise money, and then donate the money.

Wearing pink ribbon pins has become one of the best ways to turn your awareness campaign into a year round event. Many people who purchase breast cancer pins attach them permanently to hats, jackets, purses, or any other item of apparel as a way to pay tribute to the victims and encourage research efforts. No matter how you choose to do it, breast cancer awareness campaigns are an important reminder to employees, customers, and investors that you care about their health and that you are part of their community.

Breast Cancer Awareness

In recent years, the incidence of breast cancer among women has increased. As a result of this, organizations that aim to raise breast cancer awareness have doubled their efforts to give women around the world the right information to help them prevent and deal with this disease. These organizations teach women to detect early signs of cancer and recognize the symptoms of the disease. It has been proven that early detection increases a woman?s chance of survival by as much as 96 percent.

Symptoms

Some of the symptoms that women are told to watch out for include lumps, which are usually firm and painless. Other possible symptoms include swelling on the underarms and on the skin on the breasts which then develops an unusual appearance. Women are also asked to look out for veins that become prominent in the breast area. Other symptoms also include inverting of the nipples, rashes and changes in skin texture, depressions on the breast area and discharges other than breast milk.

Early Detection Plan

However, looking out for symptoms is usually not enough in detecting this disease, since there are instances in which patients are asymptomatic until the cancer reaches stage 3 or 4. To be able to prevent this, breast cancer organizations encourage women to come up with an early detection plan, which includes clinical breast examinations every three years for women aged 20 to 39, then every year thereafter. A monthly breast examination for women beginning at age 20 is also encouraged. Mammograms every two years for women in their 40s and yearly mammograms for women in their 50s are also being emphasized. Women are also told to keep a record of these exams and their appointments with their doctors. Additionally, women are urged to eat a low-fat diet, engage in regular exercise and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.

The importance of early detection of breast cancer cannot be denied since it has been proven to increase a cancer patient?s survival rate by as much as 96 percent. Given this, it is then important for women to do what they can to prevent having to suffer unnecessarily from this disease. Having an early detection plan is an effective way of doing just that.
